President Hu hasbeen pitching the Chinese government's vision of China's economy as one that relies on high-end innovation more than low-cost manufacturing.
Consequently, he wants his scientists and university research labs to create a new edge to nanotechnology, stem cell research and other fields - clean technology and such.
However...there is a problem. Professors are teaming up with business partners to commercialize their lab results. The schools are trying to make ...um...money. Or someone is trying to make money.
Are schools in China focused on making money? You betcha.
It is not uncommon for researchers to have a falling out over the percentage of shares the hard working professor should get in the up and coming company.
These kind of academic disputes cause US universities to rethink their desire to collaborate with Chinese universities.
Money is the bottom line...researchers, professors, businessmen, students...all want to cash in on their work.
Schools, too, seem to be in it for the money, too.
What do you think?
