Fopros and Non-fopros alike are doing their darndest to get more students.
Clarion University has a not so novel idea of recruiting high school studnets directly from china.
A principal and the international director of Yaosha High School in Tianjin, China recently visited Clarion University. Their visit was a follow up to a visit by Clarion officials to Tianjin last year.
There is a key sentence in the report at Clarion News "...four Chinese students have applied to Clarion University and been admitted, provided they receive their visas."
It is quite easy, make that very easy for Chinese students to get accepted to American Colleges. Practically any American university, fopro or otherwise will issue the I-20 document that is needed for a prospective student to take to the US embassy in China or one of its consulates.
But, that is where it inevitably stops.
Clarion does NOT have an English as a Second Language program = they are not ready for international students from China or anywhere else.
I will be very surprised if any of the four students get their visas. I hope that someone from clarion will tell me I was wrong.
But, for now, I predict the students in China have a better chance at winning a local lottery.
If Clarion or other universities want more students, perhaps they ought to concentrate on finding them in the US, NOT in China..at least until the student visa numbers are eased.
What do you think?

Bill, while in China teaching master level students, two very top students shared a desire to come to the U.S. to obtain doctorates. Knowing that the path is very difficult, I advised them to try going to Canada. They are very brilliant people and I hope their dream becomes a reality, but even at the top level it is hard to enter the US to attend university.
