Public colleges and universities get an average of 50% of their revenues from tax subsidies = federal, state and local governments.
What that means is that John and Jane Taxpayer are paying for these schools AND then are being charged out the gazoo to pay the tuition price, too.
Private non-proft colleges and universites get about 17% of their revenue from you and me....and it can still cost $30k+ to go there, not counting living expenses.
It makes logical sense that non-profits would not put money into the tax coffers just so they could get it back. That is kind of like asking the preacher to tithe so he can get a pay increase.
Consequently, non-profits do their best to maximize tax subsidies AND get more of them.
So, if non-profits are getting up to half of their money from the taxpayers, why does it still cost so much to go there IF you or your kid can get in?
What do you think?
