Uh, online learning is not easier. If anything online learning is tougher.
The time stamp is unforgiving. The interaction between prof and student is more. Every student must interact with his/her instructor and do it often. There is also no hiding in the stands. The student MUST learn to communicate in writing.
Students also must read more and understand more without having things explained to them.
I get asked questions all the time with the online classes I teach. Nine out of 10 times I answer with "read the syllabus". Seriously, the answer is almost always in the syllabus. Sometimes, I will tell them the page number, but not usually.
I don't tell the students the answer because the last thing they need from me is something else to read and understand. And, because the answer is usually in the syllabus if they just look closer.
In online classes, there is no cramming. A student canNOT pass an online class by squeaking through a final test or turning in a great paper at the end. Scores are accumulated over the course. Students must keep to the schedule.
Didn't we old goats learn a long time ago...doing school work wasn't all that tough. Doing it on time, making a plan and working the plan...those were tough things.
Students learn that real quickly online.
Online learning is not only an economical way for a university to deliver an education its also a very good way to do so.
Perhaps that is why online education is growing so much, why the fopros have been behind it and why the traditional colleges are now getting on board.
What do you think?
