It's old news now that Warren Buffett gave his wad to the Gates foundation - some $37 billion of it. Whew!
His contribution alone doubled the size of the foundation to nearly $60 billion and put second place Ford Foundation a distant $50 billion behind, but still at $11 billion.
One hopes that Ford doesn't have to dip into this fund to save itself.
Buffett, it seems had planned to let his wife spend all the money after he died. But she went first.
Perhaps, Buffett got the idea on one of the billionaire weekends he spends annually with Bill Gates. In any event, he sees Bill and Melinda's attempts to right world health care AND make an improvement in high school education as worthy 'investments' for his money.
Education in the US is broken...not as bad as the health industry, but it's still broken...and now Gates and Buffett want to do something about it.
Did anyone else think 10 years ago that these two billionaires would devote their lives and their earnings to making a permanent difference in the world?
And if you did, did you think they would take aim at global health and the US high school education system?
I didn't think it.
