Hitachi, Mizuho Corporate Bank, the University of Tokyo and a few other Japanese businesses and academic institutions are teaming up and planning to meet this month to develop the next generation Internet search engine.
Yea! Go! I am probably wrong, but when I do a Google or Yahoo search, I don't think I get the most popular results. I think I get the results that someone paid the most to have on top or marketed the best so they can get the best ranking.
I feel like Internet search results are like popularity contests rather than relevant results. Am I wrong here?
The Japanese have a search tool that they want to commercialize within the next three to five years.
Tokyo U. is Japan's best and when a top University teams up with a first rate buiness, Hitachi, and someone ponies up the yen, Mizuho, good results might be expected, no?
As for me, I'd like for someone to show the Googles and Yahoos that fair results are what searchers really want.
Time will tell us whether the Japanese can do it better or not.
What do you think?
