Universities are committed to the generation and dissemination of knowledge as well as the advancement of the sciences, technology and so on.
They do this by
1. research
2. lab work
3. discovery
This is at the heart of the university...to learn something new. Students who didn't know something before will learn something they didn't know before. And, people who knew a lot will discover something nobody knew.
In some schools - learning how to learn is the end goal.
What happens as a result of the learning, or what a student does with what they have learned are not primary considerations and sometimes are not considered at all.
Processing knowledge is at the heart of non-profit institutions.
Isn't that enough?
