Non-profits tell students, parents, society what it is a person needs to know. They set up shop and say "here is what you need to know and here we are if you want to learn all about this."
What is taught is decided by the faculty...often detached from the real world. Much if not all is theory based.
Change happens, if at all, slowly and very incrementally.
Tenured faculty must be used whether there is a demand for their subject or not.
