The Maryland State Department of Education assumed control of three elementary schools and turned them over to a for-profit operator of public schools - Edison Schools Inc.
The results - Edison = Maryland State DOE could do no better.
This begs the question - if the State DOE doesn't know what is best for their schools, then who does? Perhaps the Gates?
It is not easy nor always wise to privatize government functions...and those who think it should NEVER be done are pointing at Edison and Maryland State.
The general reasons for privatization are:
1. Expediency
2. Economic Savings
&
3. Higher degree of professionalism
But, sometimes things are so broken they can't be fixed. Ask the Gateses what they learned in high school.
Maybe Edison didn't fail after all. Maybe these schools were just beyond repair.
What do you think?
