Talk about the need to go back to school!
This judge needs some remediation.
About 20,000 students or 5% of the graduates in California could NOT pass the exit exams. These tests are administered to ensure that students meet the minimum requirements to function as contributing members of society.
Problem was, a bunch couldn't pass the test.
Bigger problem - Judege Freedman wants to pass them anyway.
Reason - they come from economically disadvantaged schools.
Reason - Governor Schwarzenegger didn't give the schools enough money to offer remediation programs.
Reason - The Students didn't study hard enough?
So, if they couldn't pass, because of whatever reason, should they be sent on their way anyhow?
No!
Students are tested in the tenth grade in CA to see who is in trouble. Remediation is offered - extra classes and materials are supplied.
CA is a blue state and if a person, in this case a student, can't do something, well then - it's somebody else's fault. Somebody didn't give something...
What about studying hard?
I have maintained that a good student can learn from a bad teacher...but a good teacher can not always teach a bad student.
Schwarzenegger has since ponied up an additional $200 million to hire more counselors, provide more material and allow for more home visits.
But, when are the students going to buckle down and study?
What do you think?

classic conservative mislead thought. I do not neccesarily agree with the judge but your interpretation is falacious to say the least. I was born and raised in Vallejo CA, the above problem affects areas such as mine at a much higher percentage than it does the rest of the state. About 2 years back the school district was so bankrupt classes were literally not going to begin in fall. An emergency bailout loan of $37 ( believe) million that came with republican appointed to taked FULL control of the school district (the board was now advisory ONLY). 30million was spent the first day he was there. The schools are so dilapitated many have only 1 bathroom open on campus, the majority of the city is lower middle class at best. Since the free hot breakfast program was cut for lack of funding, kids literally go to school without food. These problems begin early in elemetry school. When you have cannot concentrate in class and you have literally never been taught how to study, I find it humours you should tell us to 'study harder'
