With as many as 70% of students who take the national entrance examination in China NOT going to a four year college in China, Chinese high school students are starting to take aim at SAT and ACT tests in the US.
Beijing has more than 1500 students enrolled at one school for SAT prep courses.
More than 2000 students have registered to take the ACT test.
Hundreds of thousands of Chinese take the TOEFL and GRE tests in hopes of getting into graduate school in the US.
More and more, high school students are now taking aim at undergraduate schools in the US.
There is no limit to the number of foreign students a university can recruit. They only need to have basic English skills and be able to foot the bill.
The Chinese are great test takers. A score of 500 on a TOEFL test will get you into more undergraduate schools. 550 is good enough to go to grad school. I know Chinese who get above 600 but still can't speak English. But, they can take tests and score well.
My bet is that it won't be long before a Chinese student aces the SAT and/or ACT test. The student will not have to decide which top ten university in the US they want to attend. The universities will be lining up to recruit them.
