The Western Association of Schools and Colleges says that it plans to take away Compton Community College's accreditation.
There are two main reasons WASC says it plans to do this:
1. Poor governance
2. Lack of student support services
If the school is not making budget and/or meeting the needs of the students, then take the accreditation away.
WASC does NOT enter into a school on a whim and make a decision on the fly to take away a school's accreditation. There is always a probationary period with guidance and follow up visits.
Apparently, Compton, despite being on probation for up to two years = they had two years to get their act right, could not bring their school up to snuff.
Losing accreditation means the school will receive no more state funding - good. They won't lose any more money.
Student's at Compton will no longer be eligible for federal financial aid. That's good, too. The government will not give money to students to study at a school that does not do its job.
It is unfortunate that Compton will close, perhaps. It is more unfortunate that despite repeated warnings and sufficient time, they couldn't clean up their act.
