Gary Hull, not the Olympic swimmer (spelling is different) is an instructor at Duke University.
He will also preside over Founders College which hopes to set up shop on an 1,100 acre estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Lynchburg, VA.
Founders College applied for private, for-profit status in Maine and North Carolina but ended up being the focus of speculation by regulators there.
Now it is looking for a home in Virginia.
Hull, according to Insidehighered, says most colleges today have become "swamped by political correctness, by diversity and by other nouveau political movements, pushing out all the core courses..."
I saw a sign not long ago when driving through the campus of UC Santa Cruz "Center for Transexual Studies." Is that what he means, I wonder.
But then Hull goes on to say, that professional instructors, just like professionals in other fields, don't let their personal views dominate their teaching. "We will not put up with" teachers who stick their personal viewpoints into their classroom presentations.
Huh!?
Let's see, it goes from one end where some instructors can say anything to the other end where they are told what it is they can and cannot say.
Nah...doesn't work for me.
Whatever happened to academic freedom, integrity, responsibility, critical thinking and such?
If Founders doesn't get permission to set up shot, we won't miss anything, I think.
What do you think?
