Morgan Hill? Morgan Hill is not even a university or a university town or anything else. It is a small town just south of San Jose that desperate people wanting houses they can afford (not any more) would travel to and from so they could still work in Silicon Valley.
Now Morgan hill is to become the city with a castle. And, Stanford, UC-Berkeley and Santa Clara University are all eating their hearts out.
All three schools lobbied for the 'Math Institute' that will be built in Morgan Hill by Fry's Electronics' owner John Fry.
Fry figures he will have to dish out as much as $50 million to put up a building to house the institute.
The novelty is, Fry wants the institute modeled after the 14th century Moorish Alhambra, that can be found in Grenada, Spain.
A math institute in a castle? In Morgan Hill?
John Fry lives in Morgan Hill. John Fry has his own golf course in Morgan Hill. Now John Fry will have a castle there.
Despite graduating from Santa Clara University in the 1970's with a major in mathematics, Fry did NOT choose his alma mater to house this institute - one of four in the world.
Oberwolfach, Germany, Luminy, France and Bamff, Canada are home to the other three.
Fry has some 12,000 math volumes and hopes to house the world's largest collection of math books - including an original Newton's Principa and papers from Einstein.
The first test question for prospective students is to calculate the square footage of the castle.
The answer: 168,000 square feet on 60 acres.
Some people have too much money.
What do you think?
