A camera crew is following a large delegation of Chinese on a tour of UAlbany.
The Chinese think that because UAlbany has ties with companies like AMD and IBM, that UAlbany knows the latest in technology and business.
So, the delegation wants to forge a partnership with UAlbany.
Of course, UAlbany wants the same. A partnership with China = students, money, researchers, money, business relations, money....
The footage of the Chinese delegation's visit to UAlbany will be made into a documentary on US and Chinese relations.
Relationships is something that universities are good at. I remember when I was living in Japan and on a teaching visit to Far East Russia.
Over dinner, I casually mentioned to the president of the university in Russia where I visited about establishing a relationship with the university where I taught in Japan.
Visits from both sides led to visits to both universities in both countries. Sister school agreements were signed and visits to mayor's offices followed to discuss sister city relationships.
Yep, universities are good for forging relationships.
