I bet this will make the people of Pennsylvania both happy and angry.
They will be happy to know that their tax dollars are no longer being used to support genocide in Darfur.
They will be angry to know that their tax dollars were used in Sudan in the first place.
Penn has an investment office. Gee...don't all universities have investment offices? Penn's investment office has been directed to not acquire stocks in named companies or Sudanese government obligations.
The companies that have been blacklisted are:
1. Bentini
2. Higleig
3. Hi-Tech Petroleum
4. Nam Fatt
5. Oil & Natural Gas Corporation
6. PetroChina
7. Sinopec
Should Penn be patted on the back for this action or slapped and then patted?
I still wonder why universities, public ones at that, are permitted to accumulate ungodly sums in the first place, much less have enough to invest in the global market.
What do you think?
