If I were a kid, I'd head overseas to study in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the opportunity to study abroad just wasn't there when I was growing up. Instead, I let Uncle Sam foot the bill and send me there to 'see the world.' I ended up staying for 20 years and learned what cannot be taught in a classroom. The Greeks call it knowledge from experience instead of just head knowledge.
Still there are reasons to not go:
1. It's different - In Europe, class hours are minimal and students must motivate themselves as opposed to relying on being spoonfed.
2. It's different - Students unions are the social life instead of fraternities and sororities, large-scale college sports and such.
3. It's different - the application process is different. For example students apply for up to six schools at UCAS.ac.uk in hopes of getting into one.
4. It's different - scholarship money is not so readily available if at all. Sally Mae International can help out. salliemae.com
All things considered, I'd rather study overseas if I had the chance.
What do you think?

I should ask my daughters to compare their experiences as students in the U.S.with their experiences in Europe.
They studied in France and Germany.
It's worthwhile just for the languages to study abroad, but there are many other benefits as well.
