For the past five years, students who have applied for Pell Grants have also allowed themselves and their records to be screened by the FBI.
The AP reported that the FBI gave about 1,000 names to the Education Department of people they (the FBI) wanted more information on.
I wonder if I was on that list. I sent FAFSAs on both of my boys in the past five years.
If I were on the list, the FBI wasted its time.
Would I mind being on the list? Not at all.
The FBI, CIA, Bush Admninistration, Homeland Security and such all have their hands full in this post 9/11 world. If being open to a bit of scrutiny will help them do their job, I am willing to be open. In fact, I am willing to help out.
When I visited my son at the school in FL where he attended, I often drove past the flight school that trained Trade Center bombers.
"But, why didn't someone know?" is the resounding question.
Well, the FBI wasn't allowed to look back then. Maybe doing some snooping now will prevent such tradgedies from happening again.
