I wish I could remember where I first came across this word. Actually I wish I could claim to have created it.
A pracademic is a faculty member who actually practices the academic discipline s/he is teaching.
University of Phoenix calls them practioners...but I think pracademic has a better ring to it.
Those who can do, those who can't teach is the old adage.
This is not the case for fopros. Fopros want their faculty members to be actively engaged in the real world in the discipline that they are teaching.
What a novel idea this is!
Too many faculty members don't know practice from theory and theory just doesn't cut it anymore.
My wife teaches business classes online. She is a manager for a large commercial real estate firm in her 'real job.'
I teach writing. I also get paid to ramble here. Some may wonder why.
Teachers, instructors, facilitators, faculty members, practioners, pracademics....call them what you like. But if a person has not tried in real life (for some disciplines) what it is they are called upon to teach, they ought not be allowed in the classroom
Next instructor, please.
