A report on the Journal of the American Dietetic Association's finding explains that students are fatter now because they take bigger portions when serving themselves at the buffet in the cafeteria.
Is anyone surprised by this finding?
Students are eating more now than they did 20 years ago. Of course, 20 years ago they were toddlers. I mean, more than students 20 years ago.
Of course, students are bigger (fatter) now so they need to eat more to maintain their superior size of now-a-days, no?
The result is that students these days are more gravity-challenged. They do pass their life-style classes and learn how to read the labels on the packages, but, unfortunately most of their study time is done in groups in the cafeteria.
Why doesn't someone study how to really really make a difference in students' lives?
If there is enough time and research power to measure what and how much a person is taking, why not shout out "Hey! That's too much! Back off!" Or something like that.
I'm glad they didn't have buffets when I was in school. No doubt I'd be twice the size I am now.

Hiya! Lurked over after seeing your comment on my blog, and have to say I've enjoyed reading your facts and figures posts.
We don't have cafeterias here in MOST schools in Australia (although I'm sure there are still a few that choose to use them). It's bad enough having parents pack lunches with enough food to serve two or three children, but then we have the other extreme too, where parents don't pack ENOUGH for their kids to eat.
Why is the food issue such a problem? It never seemed to be an issue when I was growing up..
Excuse my ramblings.
