What parent doesn't want their kids to go to college or at least have the ability to go if they so desire? Who wouldn't like to go to college if they haven't already had the chance?
Measuring Up 2006: The Nation's Report Card on Higher Education gives a grade indicating which are the top five states and which are the bottom five for preparing students to go to college:
The top five:
5 - 3 Connecticut, Maryland and Virginia (A-)
2 - 1 Massachusetts and New Jersey. (A)
The bottom five:
5 - 4 Louisiana and New Mexico (F)
3 - 1 Mississippi, Alabama, and Arizona
Is it my imagination are do these results seem somewhat regional. AZ and NM are neighbors as are LA, MS and AL.
The east coast states, with their long history of education and post secondary schools seems to do the best job. There must be something to history class after all.
How well are you or your kids being prepared for college?
Measuring Up 2006: The Nation's Report Card on Higher Education gives grades to each state in various categories:

2. Participation - how accessible are college level courses and training to young people and working-age adults
3. Completion - how successful are students at finishing what they start
4. Affordability - how feasible is it for families and individuals to pay for schooling
5. Benefits - how does this education help the individual make a better contribution to their state
