The Education Department released its findings on post secondary institutions. The full report can be found at Education Department. The decade covered in the report is from 1993-2003.
I am an educator and often peruse the faculty job openings at Chronicle of Higher Education.
In the education department report we can find the top five states where the number of higher ed employees have increased. In other words, if you are looking for a job in higher ed, head to one of these states.
5. New Hampshire - jobs increased 53.1%
4. Louisana - 57.6%...this does not take into account jobs LOST because of Katrina
3. Arizone - 72.6% - everyone say 'thank you' to the University of Phoenix.
2. Nevada- 73% - everything is growing in Nevada because the Californians can't afford to live in CA anymore.
1. Alaska - 87.9% - I am going on a cruise to Alaska next week. Maybe I'll stay.
The bottom five states for finding a job.
5. West Virginia - 8.4% - couldn't get enough kids to leave their stills
4. New York - 7.3% - I am part of that figure because I left a teaching position in Buffalo, NY about 5 years ago.
3. Michigan - 7.1% - Perhaps that's why OSU has been beating them in football lately.
2. Alabama - 5.4% - Uh, can't think of anything to say...
1. District of Columbia - -23.8% the only area with a net decrease. If you want to work at a post secondary school, do NOT go there.
How is business at your college/university in your state?
