UMass Online CEO thinks there is some regionalism in online education. Only 28% of UMass Online students are from out of state despite the institutions 23% increase in enrollment and 32% rise in revnue to nearly $23 million.
How many of the online students are students enrolled in University of Massachusetts but are taking courses online?
How much has UMass marketed outside of the region?
University of Maryland University College, Penn State World Campus, and University of Illinois Global Campus are also hoping they can attract enough students from nearby their campuses to justify their attempt at taking on University of Phoenix.
It is already evident to me that the state colleges are thinking too small. University of Phoenix would have these schools concentrate on reaching only students in their immediate answer while UoP reaches the world...I recently heard that opening a campus in China was not too far in the distant future.
What do you think?
