University Of Phoenix to be Sued for Billions?
Inside Higher Ed :: U. of Phoenix Loses in U.S. Court reports on the overturn of a lower courts decision that allowed University of Phoenix to continue to 'sell' the school the way it has been...thus growing it to the 115,000+ students it has.

For some reason, the fact that this school and other fopros like it are growing is extremely bothersome to some.

I do NOT advocate putting warm bodies in the seats at all costs. It is likened to selling a car to someone without a driver's license.

But, I also, can't for the life of me see what is wrong with pulling out 'most of the stops' to encourage, push students into a learning situation that will benefit them, their families, their employers, society, gee, and who else..their friends.

I understand the part about unscrupulous salespeople and the need to have regulation and when such regulations are violated there should be accountability.

I also see my students, virtually, improve, grow in confidence and ability, make real world applications and become better people with dreams of studying more and become even better yet.

It would be unfortunatte if there are seedy enrollment counselors, and if that is found to be the case, they should be dealt with individually. The head should not be cut off because the finger was caught in the door.

University of Phoenix and other fopros are meeting a need. I wonder what options for educating the students currently enrolled at UoP would be offered up by attackers of UoP if UoP were to have to shut its doors.

What's their plan for eduacating the many first generation students, working adults, single parents, military personnel and such?

What do you think?

I think you need to look at the bigger picture. ECs wouldn't practice seedy enrollement if their wasn't a financial benefit. UOP has broken title IV guidelines and they will pay billions. It is the end of Apollo Group and Brian Mueller.

As a student nearly ready to graduate with a bachelors degree in e-business, I can tell you that as a student I have been held to higher standards at U of P than I was at my local junior college ground campus. I also received more attention from the facilitator, and learning by being able to associate knowledge with practical and familiar work experience is priceless. ONLY because of the way the classes are offered and the ability to hyperfocus on one class at a time -- ONLY because I can attend any time of the day or night -- ONLY because I don't have to travel beyond the comfort of my own home -- these are the ONLY reasons I am attending college. So it is not a comparison of classroom vs. online -- it is a comparison of college vs. NO college... So if the "traditional academic institutions" are poor sports because we now have a choice? RASBERRIES TO YOU.... Wake up, it's the wave of the future to be able to have a choice!! and the U of P is MY choice! Not because I was coerced or misled, but because it MEETS MY NEEDS -- something the ground campuses have failed to do in THIRTY years of my adult life !!
