The US Education Department has released figures on discipline actions for crimes committed on college campuses.
I don't know what to make of these numbers.
More students are getting called in to the principal's office for various offenses. Is that because there is more nonsense going on and they are getting caught or because school officials are cracking down on offenses?![]()
In any event, discipline actions for crimes committed on campus are UP.
The number of discipline actions for drinking is up in 2004 (169,926) from 2003 (158,197) and way up from 2002 (140,576)
The number of discipline actions for drug arrests is up in 2004 (26,628) from 2003 (26,346)
The number of discipline actions for drinking is up in 2004 (1,996) from 2003 (1,696) and way up from 2002 (1,400)
Were my kid caught in one of these offenses, and I have confidence that there is no danger of that - not that he won't get caught but that he doesn't participate in such activities - I would want him disciplined appropriately. I just hope they call me first.
How about you?
