
The National Science Foundation recently released a report on the Doctoral Education Trends in the United States.
Some of the key findings:![]()
Men earned the most doctorates at 73%
However, womend earned 40% of doctorates in the 1990s.
Before 1960, foreign nationals had earned just 10% of PhDs in the US.
By 1999, foreign nationals had received one-third of all Science and Engineering doctorates and 17% of non-S&E PhDs.
One-fifth of all American Indians/Alaska Natives who received a PhD started by attending a two-year school.
One-sixth of all Hispanic PhD recipients attended a two-year college.
Almost one-third of African-Amercan PhD recipients received their undergrad degree from a Historically Black College or University.
In 1999, more than half of all PhD grads reported having debt left over from their undergrad and grad studies - a first.
