Politics. Prejudice. Ignorance.
A Jewish historian at New York University was invited to speak at the Polish consulate in New York City.
However, because this particular historian was too critical of Israel and American Jews for two groups - American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League.
The groups called the Polish Embassy to complain about the NYU historian who had planned to speak on how the Israel Lobby in the United States had often stifled honest debate.
After the two groups called, the Polish consulate concluded that the historian was too controvesial and consequently uninvited him to speak just an hour before he was due to deliver.
Well, I guess we cannot expect free speech in Poland like we do in the US, can we?
It is, however, a shame that a man cannot offer an alternative, even unpopular opinion because two groups disagree. I guess it's true. The Israel lobby does indeed stifle honest debate.
