Northeastern University has outsourced student coaching to the dismay of the student affairs office.
Northeastern has a contract with an outside coaching firm based in San Francisco, CA that provides pep talks for students who are struggling.
The bill for this service, mostly done by telephone, is $30-$120 a month per student.
Student affairs wonders why they haven't been called upon to do the job.
School officials banter back with words to the effect that the service is a supplement to existing services and the end result is better retention = more money.
The school reported a 40% increase in erollment and persistence among the 600 adult students who receive coaching. Holy cow! That many students and adults at that need coaching?!
At any rate, when a school cannot do the job it has to go to help from somewhere, so why not outsource?
Perhaps they'll find someone in India who can provide those phone pep talks and make it more cost effective.
Good grief.
What do you think?
