A Pell-Grant is for students who cannot afford to pay for tuition and cannot expect any contribution from their family.
The maximum amount is $4,050.
In 2001-02 a full Pell Grant award could make up 42% of a student's college costs. In 2005-06 it makes up just 33%. 20 years ago, the max Pell Grant met 60% of college needs.
Even there is more money available, the amount awarded is meeting less of the students and parents' needs.
In 2005-06, the amount that students went after actually declined for the first time in 6 years.
Does that mean that students are realizing that the grant isn't worth going after? Or are less students going to school now?
what do you think?
