
Insidehighered has a very interesting article and quite an ensuing discussion on the topic of profs and their beliefs or lack thereof.
It seems that profs in higher institutions are not as godless as we might be led to assume...depending on the discipline they teach, of course.
Profs were asked their Positions of Belief - the % of those who agreed is indicated
I don’t believe in God.
10.0%
I don’t know whether there is a God and I don’t believe there is any way to find out.
13.4%
I don’t believe in a personal God, but I do believe in a Higher Power of some kind.
19.6%
I find myself believing in God some of the time, but not at others.
4.4%
While I have my doubts, I feel that I do believe in God.
16.9%
I know God really exists and I have no doubts about it.
35.7%
I am not embarrassed to admit - I am absolutely sure there is a Creator of the Universe. How could any reasonable person conclude otherwise?

I guess when you arn't a scientist who spends all day theorisng thos sort of thing you have to look to the most intelligent of our species to work the answer out for you. At best, scientists like Stephen Hawking do not deny that a being may have had a hand in creating the universe. Equally, he puts forward a theory that diesn't require anyone to have been involved. So to say any reasonable person wouldn't think otherwise is rather strange to be frank.
