Eastern Michigan University officials have called off negotiations with their professor's union, an affiliate of the American Association of University Professors.
The administration says the profs are not negotiating in good faith. The profs say that admin officials are misrepresenting their (profs) contract offers.
The school told the kids to go to class, though no one would be there to teach them except for non-union profs and graduate assistants.
The bottom line to the prof's complaints is that they don't want a change to their health benefits which would mean a net loss in their compensation.
My bet is that EMU students are paying through the nose and that half or more don't even have health insurance unless they bought the cheap stuff through the university.
My gut reaction is that the profs need to suck it up, the school needs to act in good faith to balance the budget and someone needs to get into the classroom to teach the students.
What do you think?
