The opposition was their president-to-be, Jane K. Fernandes.
The students for whatever reason decided they didn't like the board's choice for a president - the selection process, the new president was not 'deaf enough, she didn't learn sign language at an early enough age.'
Who knows?
The students boycotted classes, took over the school and led a three-day blockade which resulted in 130 arrests.
And...this is a school!
Is there no better way to voice opposition and come to terms than to resort to viloence and shred to pieces the opposition in 'victory?'
It is a sad state of affairs at Gallaudet. The students, through protests and ignorance, are running the school.
The board is forced to succumb - also stupidity.
Were it me...and this is probably why I am not on the board or one of the candidates...I't throw all the students who protested out. Don't like it? Find another school.
But, lets' see, says the accountant. If we lose this many students we will lose this money and their parents support and....Economics was perhaps the deciding factor.
The board folded.
Boards of Directors run schools, not kids. Shame on the students. More shame on the board of directors.
What do you think?
