
University of Southern California and King Abdullah II of Jordan agreed to create the Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts in Aqaba.
The deal came to be with the help of one of the university trustees - Steven Spielberg - who agreed only after the school said they would recruit students from throughout the Mideast, including Israel. Chances are some countries won't show up because they don't want to attend with people from a country that doesn't exist. Wait, there might be a movie thread there.
A pilot program has been underway for two years and now the decision is to make a three year MFA graduate school program.
The first batch of new students is expected in 2008.
Won't it be great to see some Akbauer Jackus type creating a tense drama where they have to destroy the American enemy before the clock strikes 12am.
Movies are fun...but, in the end...they are just entertainment. Or at least they should be.
