A student at Missouri State said she was given an unreasonable assignment to write a letter to the state requesting them to consider allowing homosexuals to adopt. The student, because of religious convictions, did not want to write the letter.

Consequently, she says she was refused advancement and courses in the teacher's program.

Courts, and lawyers and fingerpointing and money wasted, the school and the young lady have come to terms.

The prof who gave the assignment has been sentenced to sit in the corner behind his desk and grade papers - no classroom time.

The young lady will have her record expunged and get $9K plus two years of degree work paid for including living expenses.

The school says they are smarter for having gone through the affair though they don't think everything th young lady was saying was quite kosher.

In any event, it is healthy to see schools and students come to terms. I teach, and I don't always get everything right.

I wish in the end, however, that we, me and the students and the administration could just sit and work it out...and leave the lawyers to fight among themselves.
