
The National Center for Education Statistics released its state of the Academic Libraries 2004: (I don't know why its a year and half old or why they can't get more current info. Perhaps its the pace that those bespectacled women work at.)
So, how many little old ladies are the running our libraries? How many skinny nerdy girls are there pushing those carts around and putting
In 2004, in the nation's 3,700 academic libraries there were 94,100 full-time equivalent staff working. That's about 25 librarians per school. But, why can I never find anyone to help me?
Of that full-time equivalent staff, just over one-fourth (28%) were librarians.
That explains it. The rest are made up of cataloggers, cart pushers, checker-outers and such. So, doesn't that mean there should be more people running around in the library? Maybe they are the ones who are running up the daily tab of library transactions to keep the library in demand. Hmm...
