International students spend about $13.5 billion each year in the U.S. on tuition, living, playing, inviting friends and family and such to visit.
Every state, every institution would like a piece of that pie...the bigger the better, no doubt.
California hosts the most international students and USC is the top college with foregin enrollees.
But what do foreign students want to study?
The most popular fields of study for international students in the U.S. in 2005/06 were
# 1. Business and Management (18% of total),
# 2. Engineering (16%)
# 3. Physical and Life Sciences (9%)
# 4. Social Sciences (8%)
# 5. Mathematics and Computer Sciences (8%).
On the rise are Fine and Applied Arts (up 5%), Health Professions (up 3%), and Intensive English Language (up 7%).
No mystery here. If a school wants to recruit foreign students, then serve up what they are looking for in an education.
