Colleges also have billions of dollars devoted to merit-based tuition discounts to lure bright students...and improve rankings.
Why don't colleges stop trying to market students from everywhere, turn that money inward and increase the quality of their school so that any student can go anywhere close to home AND get a quality education. Would that be asking too much?
So, what are colleges looking for -
1. Smart students
2. Students with good test scores - SAT, ACT
3. Students who have taken Advanced Placement courses.
4. male students
5. minority male student
6. students from low-population states to improve geographic diversity.
When a college pegs someone/s who fit the above six criteria they can then spend wads of money on trying to get them to attend...then make them pay for it with increased tuition costs.
Our college recruiting system is broken.
