Students are accepted into universities who are:
1. disadvantaged
2. have 'special talents'
3. help schools stay competitive at recruiting top athletes.
UCLA has applied the 'special admit' rule to 70% of their athletes over the past three years!
San Diego State allows 64.5% in under special admit.
Berkelely - 52%.
San Jose State - 41%.
For the general student population - 5-10%.
How is it that so many student-athletes need special admission consideration?
“In order to be competitive in Division I-A athletics, you're going to have to have some flexibility compared to your normal admission policy,” UCLA Assistant Vice Chancellor Tom Lifka said. “We need those students if we're going to be competitive in certain sports.”
My son swims for a Division-I college. There are NO special admissions on his team.
If a student is too stupid to make the grade, s/he needs left off the team.
What do you think?
