The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has opted to keep the American Intercontinental University on probation for a second year.
In a press release - AIU says improvements can be seen in the following:
-- Expanding the breadth and depth of leadership in the
university's central administration
-- Improving admissions policies and procedures to better align
with the university's mission and integrity statements![]()
-- Transforming the university's admissions culture to better
focus on service to prospective students
-- Strengthening university decision-making structures to
provide for democratic processes and assure faculty
involvement
-- Engaging a more proactive governing board, which established
guiding integrity standards for the institution and a zero
tolerance policy for non-compliance
SACS says - it's not enough. keep at it. You have one more year to completely clean up your act.
A school can keep its accreditation for two years while on probation. If the school does not clean up its act within the two year time frame...it will lose the accreditation and go back to zero.
AIU is owned by Career Education Corporation of Hoffman Estates, IL.
I have a friend that I respect who was appointed president of one of the AIU schools. If it can be cleaned up, it will be.
As for the rest of CEC, I am not so confident.
What do you think?
