Some states are feeling the pinch more than others. Their schools need more money, want more money, are getting the legislators and taxpayers to dig even deeper than they did last year.
The top ten states that saw their higher ed spending increase in 2006 are:
1. Alabama - up 18.7%!!
3. Louisiana - up 14.3%
4. Colorado - up 13.9%
4. North Carolina - up 13.9%
4. Oklahoma - up 13.9%
7. Mississippi - up 13.6%
8. Maryland - up 13.2%
8. Alaska - up 13.2%
10. West Virginia -up 11.7%
The national average was a rise of 7.0%.
So if inflation is what it is, why do school costs rise so much? Where is all the money going?
