Here are the top ten states that spend the most on higher education.
The numbers are billions of dollars
1. California - 10.14 - up 20% over the past two years.
2. Texas - 5.24 - up 13.7%
4. Florida - 3.30 - up 12.3%
5. North Carolina - 2.96 - up 26.5%!
6. Illinois - 2.64 - up 3.9%
7. Ohio - 2.11 - up 3.5%
8. Georgia - 2.09 - up 14.5%
9. Pennsylvania - 2.05 - up 6.9*
10. New Jersey - 2.03 - up 5.0%
Altogether - $67,451,857,000 was spent on higher ed in 2006. That plus $5 billion more will be spent next year.
In the past two years...state spending has gone up 14.4%.
