The 230,000 employees of the University of California school system are required to take a 30 minute online schools course about ethics.
Reasons:
1. UC officials violated university policies in awarding hidden compensations - millions of dollars worth while student tuition costs climbed.
2. To teach employees respect, compliance and to encourage whistleblowing.
3. To have employees consider scenarios regarding nepotism in hiring, using university funds to buy drinks at a rewards dinner and making promises of extra pay beyond policy limits.
4. To bolster the college's image as the new budget cycle comes around.
Okay...so, why are UC employees being asked to consider ethical questions really?
Because too many people do NOT learn everything in kindergarten that they should have...starting with right and wrong. (Maybe degrees online in ethics would help.)
What do you think?
