Okay...somebody tell me what will NOT offend some black students?
I have lived in a foreign country for many many years, and I KNOW what it means to be the outsider looking in. My kids are mixed Japanese/Americans, and I KNOW what it feels like for them to be discriminated against.
But, how does dressing up like Aunt Jemima and eating fried chicken at a party to celebrate the greatness of Martin Luther King, Jr cause harm to blacks?
Kids at Tarleton State University is under fire and the president of the school is throwing gasoline on it.![]()
I wonder, out loud, is it possible, that the some people do not have thick enough skin?
My goodness.
When I grew up, there was so many of us that looked alike that I was identified as the 'not so little fat boy.'
When I told my dad this hurt my feelings....he replied with this ditty -
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me. ![]()
Next time they say that to you - sing the ditty to them....and I did...and it worked.
Dang it! It is time for people everywhere to start singing that ditty again...people of ALL colors and people without color alike.
Let the kids play.
What do you think?
More pics of the party.
