About 2,700 potential freshmen received an e-mail saying they were accepted. There parties, orgies and pats on the back...dancing naked on the table and such.
However, the next day...a second e-mail came with the message "oops."
There were two groups of students - those who had been accepted and those still being considered. The acceptance email went to the wrong group.
The school sent out 9,500 emails to all candidates explaining the mishap. At least they didn't have to spend 39cents each, no?
Go, e-mail!
UNC gets 20,000 applications to fill 3,800 freshmen spots. About 7,000 get accepted because some choose not to attend after all.
The 9,500 will have to continue to wait.
Oh...the people who made the error...no punishment. They came clean immediately (isn't that a surprise?) and already feel bad enough.
What would do if you received an acceptance letter and then a follow-up saying, "oops?"
