How is it possible to lose track of $20 million?
Due to mistakes and unrealistic estimates the L.A. Office of Education is now $20 million over budget.
L.A. county office of education shared these words of wisdumb as to why- "by the time it (a computer update project) was finished, it was more than two years overdue, and so much money had been spent that the total cost is difficult to calculate with precision."
Why is it so difficult to calculate? ![]()
Don't they have bookkeepers and auditors?!
I bet if it were their $18 million or $20 million they would know where it was.
The county's 'low-profile' office has an operating budget of $750 million and oversees a $16 billion a year in spending by various school districts.
With that much money, gee, what's another $20 million?
The office says that another project had been delayed so much that it was more than a year late and has no end in sight.
A third project budgeted at $3.5 million and scheduled for completion in July of 2005 is still unfinished.
How is it that these officials can lose track of so much of the taxpayers' money?
And, why aren't LAers going nuts over this?
They could pay a year of Kobe's salary with that much money.
What do you think?
