Ohio University cut men's outdoor and indoor track and field, men's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse.
The reasons - stupidity - disguised as Title IX.
A school official had these words of wisdumb.
"We have not met our goal of compliance with Title IX. We are not in the financial position to add a women's program, and therefore must take alternative measures to continue our commitment to compliance with this federal statute."
Alternative measures means cutting a 100 year old tradition - track and field
Alternative measures means cutting a 72 year old tradition - swimming and diving was made a varsity sport at Ohio U in 1935.
The way schools, and now Ohio University are applying Title IX is ridiculous.
If there are enough girls who WANT to participate in sports and can perform at a STANDARD that is equal to NCAA standards, then they should be given equal treatment...no argument.
If there are not enough girls, then let the boys play...and vice versa.
What do you think?
