Why not a former president of AT&T to head up Illinois' Higher Education Board?
The former president of AT&T Illinois has been asked to lead the Illinois Board of Higher Education, a non-paid position, for the next six years.
The new chair's "business experience will bring a valuable perspective to the Board of Higher Education," said a news release.
I'll say. I don't know about the new chair's sucess or lack of at AT&T, but I do know that higher education needs someone/s who can make the schools in Illinois, anywhere for that matter, more:
1. accountable
2. affordable
3. accessible
Good business people know ho to accomplish those three goals. Why should the goals be any different when delivering quality education.
Before working for AT&T, the new Illinois chair worked as a lawyer.
So, if she can't offer a new workable plan for Illinois schools, she can at least confuse them.
Let's hope she makes a real positive difference in Higher Ed in Illinois and in other states that follow Massachusetts and Illinois in tapping business leaders for guidance.
