"A woman named Condoleeza stood on top of a Federal building and dropped a watermelon...."
Two years AFTER the fact...the test problem was brought to the attention of people who don't like math profs who use names like Condoleeza, Federal buildings and watermelons in test problems.... TWO YEARS AFTER THE FACT.
The school decided the prof needed disciplining for his being racially insensitive... a week without pay.
However, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education thought this discipline action was stupid....Oh, how I agree.
Seven months of lawyers making points and counterpoints and running up counseling fees later...the school backed down.
The math prof was 'free at last, free at last, thank God almighty he was free at last'...to use whatever names he please in his math problems.
Is it my imagination or do some people just plain go looking for something to pick a fight over? Even...two years after the fact.
