For the following reasons, Amnesty International thinks capital punishment should be abolished in China.
1. Lack of prompt access to lawyers
2. Lack of presumption of innocence
3. Political interference in the judical process
4. Failure to exclude evidence extracted through torture
5. 70 criminal offenses can result in the death penalty - robbery, rape, murder, corruption, fraud
Amnesty International wants China to abolish the death penalty before the 2008 Beijing Games.
China says -
1. "More than half the countries in the world have the death penalty system and the Chinese government has all along implemented it in the spirit of the constitution."
2. "We control the use of the death penalty out of the respect for human rights."
3. "...there are still more than 40,000 homicide cases across the country ... so this is one way of protecting innocent lives."
Do away with capital punishment? I don't think so. I don't even think it is wise.
Better yet, why doesn't AI come up with a plan to teach people not to steal, commit sexual crimes, kill, deceive....
Then the numbers of those that get visits from the lethal injection vans will decrease.
Telling China to change its law...give it up.
What do you think?

I think capital punishment should be legal in every state. I think this because, our state needs it. All over states there are crimes. Crimes that are so serious, they need the death penalty. Do you want somebody close to you to be killed, and not know if that person will a suffer a Sevier punishment? With the death penalty it’s a guaranteed punishment!
