Teachers Union Might Support Extended School Hours
Different school systems are experimenting with longer days at school in hopes of getting better results.

Massachusetts is trying it. So, is Florida.

The National Education Association, the largest teacher's union, apparently has no official opinion on the matter.

However, its president said teachers would probably support the idea if:

1. the teachers could decide if they wanted to work the longer hours or not

2. the teachers were adequately paid

3. the teachers have a say in setting goals for the effort.

Uh...do the teachers in the union care if the students benefit or not?

"Can I get paid more? Can I get overtime? Can I decide if I want to work or not? Can I decide the judgement criteria in case the results to not pan out?"

What about, we are willing to do what's best for the kids?

What about, is this the best way to do things or not?

Do unions think about anything but themselves?

What do you think of unions?

im d0in a rep0rt on this sooo thnx ppl

This article is riddled with fallacies. You really need to think these issues through before forming strong opinions on the subject. For example, something that benefits the desires of teachers may or may not simultaneously benefit students. You're trying to pit one against the other by default. What benefits teachers might attract better caliber people to the profession, for example. And why do you expect unions to be the only entity in the market putting the welfare of others besides themselves first? What would be the incentive? Unrealistic attitudes like yours, expecting teachers to forgo unionization and do more and more for less and less for lack of market bargaining power, only serve to strengthen teacher unions. If you're envious of teachers' having the smarts and where-with-all to form and maintain unions, get your industry to do the same instead of trying to knock down teachers. And don't try to pit their interests against the interests of children. Teaching is a profession, not a charity.
